Generic Motrin is used for relief of the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. It might also be used by your doctor in treatment of primary dysmenorrheal as he deems fit.

Usage

Following the dosage instructions of your doctor is the best way to use any medication.

The dosage should not be more than 3200 mg a day.

You may choose to take Generic Motrin with a meal or milk to avoid gastrointestinal toxicity.


Drug Class and Mechanism

Generic Motrin is classified as a NSAID. A certain type of chemical called prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase) is responsible for causing inflammation, pain and fever. Ibuprofen blocks the enzymes that produce prostaglandins thereby reducing inflammation, pain and fever.

Missed Dose

Despite your best attempts at remembering, if you still miss out on a dose, then take it as soon as you remember about it. But keep in mind that you will have to adjust your next dose by spacing it out by 4 to 5 hours. If this is not possible, then the best thing to do would be to skip the missed dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

Never try to compensate for the missed dose by taking a double dose together. It may cause adverse effects.

Storage

Store Generic Motrin at room temperature, 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F).

Most medications have some kind of side effects associated with them. The commonest of these side effects are temporary and mild and fade away without any special attention.

These include gastrointestinal toxicity, blurred and/or diminished vision, scotomata, and/or changes in color vision, dizziness or headache, nausea, gaseousness, diarrhea, or constipation,
depression, fatigue, or weakness, dry mouth, or irregular menstrual periods

However, in some cases, these mild side effects may persist or become bothersome. In such cases, seek medical attention.

Also, in some rare cases, it may lead to severe side effects like an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); muscle cramps, numbness, or tingling; ulcers (open sores) in the mouth;
rapid weight gain (fluid retention);
seizures; decreased hearing or ringing in the ears;
yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice); or
abdominal cramping, indigestion, or heartburn.
Seek medical attention if you notice any of these side effects.

Side effects that are not listed here may also occur.

Possible Side Effects

The most frequent type of adverse reaction you may experience with Generic Motrin Tablets is gastrointestinal. Blurred and/or diminished vision, scotomata, and/or changes in color vision have also been reported.

More Information

Contact your doctor if you experience blood in vomit or bloody, black, or tarry stools. These symptoms could indicate damage to the stomach or intestines, which could be dangerous.
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking ibuprofen and seek medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:
an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
muscle cramps, numbness, or tingling;
ulcers (open sores) in the mouth;
rapid weight gain (fluid retention);
seizures;
decreased hearing or ringing in the ears;
yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice); or
abdominal cramping, indigestion, or heartburn.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take ibuprofen and talk to your doctor if you experience
dizziness or headache;
nausea, gaseousness, diarrhea, or constipation;
depression;
fatigue or weakness;
dry mouth; or
irregular menstrual periods.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
